Schools

NPI is studying critical questions that drive improvements in school food and physical activity. Schools are the most important places where children develop lifelong healthy habits. Highlights of our research include: examining the relationship between school meal participation and diet quality, investigating the use of technology and design innovation to increase student consumption of school meals, assessing a novel curriculum that brings gardening and cooking into the classroom, and evaluating complementary approaches to student and school staff wellness. We also study the use of fitness testing as an educational tool and strategies to overcome barriers to physical education quantity and quality.
