Communities
NPI conducts and evaluates the impact of programs and policies that increase access to fresh, healthy foods in neighborhoods, support “healthy eating, active living” communities, increase access to physical activity, and change the built environment by creating increased neighborhood walkability and safety. This research includes a focus on health disparities and community engagement, collaborations involving multiple sectors, including schools, parks, faith-based organizations, grocery stores, recreation, planning departments, housing and health care. NPI is also conducting several studies to investigate what combination of community efforts are ‘working’ to improve child and family nutrition and physical activity and reduce child obesity.
