Participate in a Child Care Study!

An important project on healthy family child care homes

Are you a child care provider? Do you work at a family child care home that cares for children ages birth up to 3 years old? You are invited to participate in a short study about healthier child care! All you will need is Internet access from a computer, tablet or smart phone.

You can receive a gift card up to $50 for your participation.

To be eligible to participate you must:

  • be a family child care home provider in operation for more than one year
  • care for at least one infant age birth up to 12 months old
  • care for at least one child age 1-2 years old
  • provide at least one meal, one snack, and one beverge daily to children in your care
  • have access to a computer, laptop, smart phone, or tablet with connection to the Internet

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I have to do to participate?

Participation in the project will take about 3 hours of your time. In order to participate in the project you will need to:

  • Complete an online training that includes four 20-minute interactive modules
  • Participate in a 45-minute interview with a researcher over the telephone or at your family child care home
  • Receive one email with educational resources for you and the parents of the children in your care
  • Complete a 5-minute online survey

Do I receive money for participating?

Yes, you will get gift cards up to $50 for participating in this project. You will receive $25 after completing the online training and interview and $25 after you complete the online survey.

How do I participate?

If you are eligible and enrolled, you will be scheduled for a time to complete the online training and to participate in the interview.

If you meet the below criteria you are likely eligible for the project:

  • Family child care home in operation for at least 1 year
  • Care of children ages birth up to 3 years old
  • Care for at least one infant birth up to 12 months and one child age 1-2 years.
  • Provide at least one meal, one snack, and one beverage daily to children in your care
  • Speak and read English or Spanish
  • Access to the Internet using a computer, smart-phone or tablet

How do I access the online training?

You will be able to access the online training via the Internet from your smart-phone, computer, laptop, or tablet. You will need to install the latest version of your preferred web browser (such as. Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari). The training will be provided to you at no cost.

What will the training be like?

The online training will take 80-100 minutes to complete. It is interactive and includes brief games and activities, videos and audio recordings throughout. After completing the training, you will receive a certificate of completion that you can print or save. The training will be provided to you at no cost.

What will the interview be like?

We will schedule a convenient time for a researcher to interview you over the telephone or in-person at your family child care home after you have completed the online training. The interview will take about 45 minutes and will be audio recorded. You will be asked questions about your experience with the online training and your family child care home.

Can I participate in the program if I participate in Child and Adult Care Food Program?

Yes, even if you participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program you may be eligible to participate in this project. You can call Ron Strochlic at 510.221.6153 or email rstrochlic@ucanr.edu if you have any questions.
